Simone Riedel (she/her)

Simone received her PhD in immunology from the University of Wuerzburg, Germany. Her interest in hematologic malignancies and curiosity for epigenetics led her to join the Bernt lab, which was at that time located at the University of Colorado Denver. Simone moved with the lab from Denver to Philadelphia. She works on a protein called Meningioma-1 (MN1) that, when overexpressed, causes a highly aggressive AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). To investigate the mechanism of this mysterious and unique protein she uses a variety of methods such as mass spectrometry, chromatin conformation assays, immunoprecipitation methods, next-generation sequencing, and in vivo models. Outside of lab Simone enjoys discovering the US (especially the Rocky Mountains), hiking, and meeting friends.
