Soniya Athavale (she/her)

Soniya joined the Bernt Lab in August of 2022 as a research technician. She graduated from Temple University with a major is Sociology (Health Track) and a minor in Chemistry. During her time at Temple, she got to work with Dr. Samantha (Davis) Chin, PhD, MPH on a mixed methods formative analysis of stress, negative affect, coping skills, and acceptability of mindfulness in lower-income female tobacco users. After graduation, she joined Dr. Bin Wang, PhD and his lab at Thomas Jefferson University to study the role of the parathyroid hormone in musculoskeletal diseases like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis in their Center for Translational Medicine. Soniya is thrilled to continue her journey in the Bernt Lab and pursue her interest in translational research. In her free time, Soniya loves to try new restaurants or cook new recipes, watch movies, and spend time with family & friends.
